💳 Credit cards via Datatrans: step-by-step guide for Shopify

How to connect Visa, Mastercard & Co. to your Shopify store through PEND – with or without an existing Datatrans contract.

With the Credit Cards payment method, you accept card payments in your Shopify store. Three partners work together: PEND connects your store to Datatrans (payment service provider), and Datatrans forwards the payments to your acquirer, for example Clearhaus. Our onboarding guides you through every step and automatically forwards your application to the right places.

What does it cost?

Good to know: You won’t be charged anything until your application has been accepted.

For more details on billing, see How Billing Works on PEND.

Step 1: Choose the Credit Cards payment method

  1. Log in at pend.ch and open My Shops. Select your store or click Add new shop.

  2. On your store’s page, select the Kreditkarten (credit cards) tile. If you already use another payment method, you’ll find it under Additional payment methods.

  3. Click Install now.

  4. You’ll be redirected to Shopify. Install the app there, and you’ll automatically return to the PEND onboarding.

Step 2: Do you already have a Datatrans contract?

The onboarding briefly explains how the partners work together. At the bottom of the page, choose whether you’re already a Datatrans customer.

Already a Datatrans customer? >> Click I am already a Datatrans customer and enter your Datatrans ID, Datatrans Password and Datatrans Key. To find out where to get these, see Your Datatrans details.

Then click Continue and carry on with step 4.

No contract yet? >> Click I don’t have a Datatrans contract yet and continue with step 3.

Step 3: Fill in your contract data and choose an acquirer

  1. Complete the Contract data form: company, name, address, contact and company details, and your shop’s website address. We use this information to create your Datatrans account.

  2. Under Do you already have an acquirer?, choose an option: I don’t have an acquirer yet / I don’t know what that is, Worldline/SIX or Clearhaus. Then click Continue.

  3. If you don’t have an acquirer yet, we recommend our partner Clearhaus, with pre-negotiated rates. Click Register here with Clearhaus and create your account. It will be linked to your Datatrans account automatically.

Then click Continue in the onboarding.

  4. At Clearhaus, you confirm your email address, enter your company details and sign the required documents.

Step 4: Confirm the costs

  1. Check the Cost Overview and your Stored Payment Method. PEND fees are charged to it. Accepted are credit cards, TWINT or ECA. You can change it via Replace payment method.

  2. Accept the terms and privacy policy and click Confirm costs. We then send your details to Datatrans.

Step 5: Review and activation

In your store, the payment method now shows the status Under review. In the Subscription tab, you can see which steps are done. As soon as Datatrans has confirmed your account, everything continues automatically.

  • The review takes 2 to 10 working days, depending on the payment processor. You’ll be notified as soon as your documents have been reviewed.

  • Your Datatrans credentials appear automatically in the Settings tab under Your Datatrans Account. You don’t need to enter them yourself.

  • We activate the payment method in Shopify automatically. If that doesn’t work, you can trigger the activation manually in the Settings tab.

Frequently asked questions

What is an acquirer?

Only once your application has been accepted. After that, the annual fee is charged yearly, and the subscription renews automatically. You’ll get an email 14 days before renewal.
